MUMMY MOT

What is a Mummy MOT?

A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment designed to help women recover safely after pregnancy and childbirth. The session looks at how your body is functioning and identifies any areas that may need support as you return to normal daily activities or exercise.

During the appointment we will assess posture, breathing, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor function. This helps identify common postnatal concerns such as abdominal separation (diastasis recti), pelvic floor weakness, or symptoms of prolapse.

The aim of the assessment is to understand how your body is recovering and provide clear guidance on how to rebuild strength and confidence.

What happens during the appointment?

Your session will include:

  • A discussion about your pregnancy, birth and current symptoms

  • Assessment of posture, breathing and movement

  • Examination of the abdominal muscles to check for separation

  • Pelvic floor assessment

  • Screening for issues such as bladder, bowel or pelvic symptoms

  • Advice on returning to exercise and daily activities

At the end of the session, we will discuss the findings and provide a personalised rehabilitation programme tailored to your recovery and goals.

Internal pelvic floor examination

An internal pelvic floor examination is optional and will only be performed with your consent.

This can provide a more accurate assessment of pelvic floor strength and function, and may be particularly helpful if you are experiencing symptoms such as heaviness, prolapse, or bladder concerns.

Your comfort is always the priority and you are free to decline this part of the assessment.

Before your appointment

Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a short health questionnaire to complete before your session. This helps us understand your history and make the most of your appointment time.

After the assessment

Following your appointment you will receive a tailored rehabilitation programme designed to support your recovery.

Some patients choose to book follow-up sessions to progress their rehabilitation or address ongoing concerns. These are entirely optional and can be arranged depending on your goals and preferences.
